Kidney Scams
Kidneys from most of the victims, who were the poor hailing from the nearby western Uttar Pradesh, were transplanted into clients from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Greece. The police raid was prompted by complaints by the locals from Moradabad about illegal kidney sales. The man accused of the scandal, Amit Kumar, was arrested in Nepal on 7 February 2008 and has denied any hand in criminal activity.
How it Works:
Individuals desperate for money become prime targets for fake kidney buyers, and scammers employ various
tactics, often leveraging the internet and fake
spam messages. Victims, driven by desperation, may respond to these deceptive messages, unknowingly
falling into the scammers' trap. The scammers, posing as
kidney buyers, manipulate victims into believing they are confirming a kidney donation. Subsequently,
they instruct the person to register with a fictitious
organization, demanding a substantial registration fee. Unfortunately, once the victim makes the
payment, they realize it was a scam, and they've lost their
money. In more sinister cases, the scammers may even contact the victim, coercing them into donating a
kidney without fulfilling the promised payment. The
exploitation of vulnerable individuals in these kidney-buying scams underscores the importance of
raising awareness and promoting caution, particularly in
online interactions related to organ transactions.
